E-governance in airports

Mangalore: E-governance in airports will get priority in the year 2007, being declared as ‘e-administration year’ by Airport Authority of India (AAI) Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO) Durgashankar Mishra said on Wednesday.
Presenting the national-level best fire service award to Bajpe Fire Department at Bajpe Airport, he said the complete computerisation of bill payment, electronic data exchange will help both agencies and passengers to pay online.
Construction on a new terminal building at a total cost of Rs 147 crore has been approved by AAI and work on the building will begin in April. The proposed terminal building to be completed in 24 months will cut the travel distance between Mangalore and Airport from 26 to just 14 kms.
In the next two months, new international flight services will add to the existing flight service from Dubai, being in operation since Oct 2006. Bigger aircrafts will also land in Bajpe Airport.
