Google Earth agrees to mask key sites including airports in India

New Delhi: Images of India's defence and scientific establishments would be blurred on Google Earth, after India said it was concerned that the free mapping programme provided a detailed view of its 'sensitive' sites, a newspaper reported Sunday.
At a recent meeting between officials from India's Science and Technology Ministry and Google Inc representatives, it was decided that installations identified by the Indian government would be carefully camouflaged, the Times of India daily reported.
Google Earth would use fuzzy, low-resolution pictures and distorted building plans to get around concerns that the sattelite images of the key sites could help terrorists find targets.
The sites include international airports, air force bases, military sites and atomic and nuclear installations like the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre.
