Govt to allow higher FDI in aviation: Patel

Bangalore: The Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel today said that government will bring a policy to allow higher foreign direct investment in civil aviation-related areas.
Inaugurating an international conference on aviation here, he said, "We are bringing in policy changes in the coming months whereby we will allow higher FDI. We want to bring in higher FDI...Even in some cases up to 100 per cent." The FDI cap in the civil aviation sector currently is 49 per cent, he said.
Noting that there was an exponential demand for corporate jets, Patel said the government will progressively open up this sector.
"We want to expand helicopter operations. The software side of civil aviation will be given a fillip," Patel said, adding MRO (maintenance, repair and overhaul) activities will also be given a push.
