Guj industries join hands for airport

Ahmedabad: With the Centre putting brakes on their plans to develop an airport in Ankleshwar, various industrial houses from south Gujarat have decided to pitch in Rs 20 crore to develop the Ankleshwar airport.
The consortium of industries from Ankleshwar, Panoli and Jhagadia has committed to develop an airport on the 192-acre plot of land near NH8 ear-marked for the project by the state, some 10 kms from Ankleshwar and 15 kms from Bharuch. An MoU signed between the state government and chairman of Ankleshwar-based United Phosphorous.
The companies will put forth their proposal to the directorate general of civil aviation shortly. Once ready, the airport operations will be handed over to the Airports Authority of India and will be managed alongwith the AAI.
The project proposes constructing a terminal build-ing on 740 sqm and handle passenger traffic up to 80 passengers per day between Ankleshwar and Mumbai. To begin with, the airport would operate just a single 50-seater flight from Ankleshwar to Mumbai and would facilitate handling of cargo.
