Navi Mumbai airport was expected to become operational in eight years, former civil aviation secretary Ajay Prasad said here on Thursday.
Addressing an Indian Merchants' Chamber seminar on infrastructure and logistics, Prasad said the civil aviation department has started a dialogue process with the Maharashtra government. The land at Navi Mumbai costs a scorching Rs 3,000 crore, which is not a viable business option, he said.
‘‘We need to buy the land from private parties, too. Land prices need to be fine-tuned,’’ he said.
The civil aviation department has identified a few places and aeronautical studies are being done there, he said.
