Parrots are Amausi’s latest bugbear

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) is yet to find takers for licences being offered for plucking of mangoes from six orchards located inside the Amausi airport.
The fee for licences being offered for a term of three years for fruit plucking rights in orchards mainly Rahimbagh, Hangar Bagh, Miyan Bagh, Chillawan, Bhaktikhera Bagh and “Bagh No 2 and Taxi Station Bagh inside the airport had been pared drastically to attract bidders in a desperate bid to shortlist contractors before the onset of mango season from April to June this year.
The fear of delay in finding suitable bidders emanates from the risk of birds especially parrots flocking to these orchards in the operational area during the mango season which might raising serious air safety concerns for aircraft landing and taking off from the airport, airport sources here informed.
The AAI had extended deadline for submission of bids for awarding the contracts twice during the last one month in the hope of awarding the contracts by the end of January this year. The last date for the submission of the bids now had been fixed as February 9, 2007.
