Retail rights for Mumbai Int’l airport in demand

The much sought after tender in India's airport retailing is heading for a close. The contest for Mumbai's duty-free rights is down to five players, reports CNBC-TV18.
Mumbai International aiport - India's busiest, is readying itself for a new duty-free retail operator. Sources say that the shortlisted include the DFS group, Dufry Interglobe, Nuance Shoppers JV, the Alpha Future JV and the incumbent India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC), with Aldeasa. While Reliance Retail was believed to be interested in bidding, it has stayed out of the race.
A GVK spokesperson confirmed five parties were on board. The bid closes on February 23. The three-year contract for Mumbai airport is expected to start on June 1. The airport rakes in revenues of Rs 45 crore, mainly from the sale of alcohol and tobacco.
