Air India lines up Airbus fleet for N-E

Agartala: The merger of Indian and Air India has spawned instant benefits for travellers to and from the Northeast — the state-owned carrier’s ageing Boeing 737 fleet will be entirely replaced with new Airbus-320 aircraft in phases.
The chairman-cum-managing director of Air India, V. Thulasidas, told the media in Agartala today that the process of phasing out the Boeing fleet would take some time but definitely happen.
“The merger of the two government airlines will ensure better serviceability and economically viability, too,” Thulasidas, formerly the chief secretary of Tripura, said today.
“It is a welcome move as many countries in the world, including the US, Germany, Japan and the UK have single air service entities. In our country, it will lead to major improvement in services, as is already evident,” he added.
The flight will be a daily service and leave Agartala for Delhi via Calcutta at 10.30am.
