Cargo will play a crucial role for India's largest private airline Jet Airways which was given the green light recently by the US Department of Transport to operate flights to the United States. The carrier launched its maiden flight to Newark International Airport, New Jersey, on August 5, using the latest B777-300ER aircraft. The daily flight from Mumbai stops over in Brussels, the airline's European hub, where it has been aggressively building up its operations.
North America is a major market for the airline not only for passenger but also cargo traffic as trade between India and the US continues to expand.
Jet Airways has developed a voracious appetite for North America where it sees enormous potential for business. To further strengthen its presence in North America, the airline will introduce another daily flight from Delhi to Toronto via Brussels effective September 5. Flights to New York's JFK International Airport are also on the cards and will be launched late this year or early next year.
Another major thrust in the region is expected to come from the airline's flights from Delhi to California via Shanghai in 2008.
