Assistant Commissioner of Customs likely to be stationed at airport

Mangalore: A total investment of over Rs 3 crore is needed for the development of infrastructure to handle air cargo. Though it is not a huge amount, yet once this money is put in we have to be sure that it will be recovered soon. The department will have to first look at the prospective users and then make recommendations in this regard, Mr Sidhu added.
"An Assistant Commissioner of Customs will be stationed in Mangalore Airport soon," said Customs Commissioner R S Sidhu.
He was delivering a talk on 'issue and concerns relating to customs' here on Tuesday. He was responding to the demand of the KCCI to provide second shift of customs manpower at Mangalore airport.
Mr Sidhu said that though there is an Assistant Commissioner for Mangalore airport he is not stationed there. He comes with the arrival of the flights. Hence there is a need for a full time Assistant Commissioner and accordingly, will be taken up with the Government. He said that though there is man power crunch it is not very intense but yet personnel will have to be deputed to Mangalore airport from else where as they can not be created here right away.
