Air ambulance on its way for victims of E-way mishaps

Accident victims on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway could get faster access to medical aid and an option to be air-lifted to the nearest hospital if a project of the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) is successfully implemented.
As per MSRDC plans, the six-lane Expressway, often criticised for the large number of accidents and lack of adequate medical services, will have a trauma care centre and a heliport for an air ambulance facility by 2014.
The Expressway was thrown open to traffic between 2000 and 2002, in phases. The road cut travel time between Mumbai and Pune but become notorious for the number of accidents due to speeding and other violation of traffic rules. As per MSRDC records, on an average, around 1,500 accidents take place every year.
