Mapsua: Senior officials inspected the proposed greenfield Mopa airport site in Pernem on Thursday even as the farmers from the area gathered there to register their protest against the project.
The North Goa collector, Mihir Vardhan, land acquistion officer of the state government, and some representatives from the ministry of civil aviation were present. Sources said that it was a brief visit which lasted for less than 25 minutes.
The farmers led by Sandip Kambli informed the government officials that they didn't want the airport but instead wanted to cultivate their fields. "The government can provide irrigation from the Tillari canal to Mopa and other surrounding villages so that we will be able to cultivate our land.
