Chennai: It is official now. Vice-President Hamid Ansari will inaugurate the much-awaited new terminals at Chennai airport in the presence of chief minister J. Jayalalithaa at 3 pm on January 31.
“We will operationalise new facilities within two months from inaugural,” airport director H. S. Suresh told Deccan Chronicle on Friday. With new terminals in place, the old domestic terminal would be closed for renovation, while the old international terminal would be refurbished and linked to the new one.
On the request made by TN CM for naming the new domestic terminal after former chief minister and Bharat Ratna M. G. Ramachandran, Suresh said that the Prime Minister’s office (PMO) could only take a decision on that.
