I-T noose on flier with 14kg gold

Kolkata:  Income-tax department sleuths arrested a person with gold worth Rs 4.2 crore in his bag late on Friday at the city airport. Prashant Kumar V, who arrived on an Air India flight from Mumbai, was taken into custody for carrying gold biscuits weighing 14kg.
On Saturday, another passenger-Shashi Jaju-was arrested with nine gold biscuits and $5,000 by Customs when she landed in the city on an Emirates flight. The passenger could not produce any documents for either the gold or the foreign currency in her possession, leading to the arrest.
In the case of Kumar, it was CISF officers at the security checkpoint in Mumbai airport who detected the presence of a large quantity of metal in a handbag. "The gold biscuits appeared as black opaque patches on the X-ray monitor. Following norms, the bag was physically searched and the 84 gold biscuits recorded in the register," said an officer.
