IATA cries foul against Aviation Ministry's move to unbundle air fares

Chennai: The IATA Agents’ Association has come out against the Civil Aviation Ministry’s move to unbundle air fares and facilitate separate charging of preferred services. The association charged that the move will lead to a soaring of airline ticket prices.
The latest statement shows the hidden agenda of the government to allow complete freedom and flexibility to airlines to charge for preferred seats, food, baggage and any other service, which violated national law, the organisation alleged.
Air Passengers’ Association of India president D Sudhakara Reddy said that the move would be unfair to passengers as basic services would be charged extra now. “Services like meals, baggage and seats are part of the airline ticket. But, the present move will lead to a situation where the passenger will have to pay extra for every other service,” he said.
National president of the  IATA Agents Association Biji Eapen said that the Union Government was promoting monopoly in the Indian aviation industry by a few large travel agent groups and airlines at the cost of the smaller travel agents.
