Pawan Hans may enter commercial airline business

Bangalore: With the Union government readying to finalise a policy to increase regional air connectivity, another public  sector aviation company is planning to enter the commercial airline business.
Pawan Hans Helicopters Ltd (PHHL) is said to have received the board of directors nod to enter the lucrative civil aviation space. Agencies reported that the company, which currently provides services in remote and hilly areas and charter services for promotion of tourism, will enter the sector to increase regional connectivity.
The company will follow the footsteps of Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) which recently has been suggested to also focus on making civil aircraft by the former Cabinet Secretary BK Chaturvedi-led high powered committee.
Anil Srivastava, Chairman of PHHL was quoted as saying that they had a mandate from the government and the board to move towards fixed winged operations.
