Flyer held at airport with 1kg gold, knife

Ahmedabad: A man in his late 20s was caught at the SardarVallabhbhai Patel International airport with 1 kg gold, at 1 am on Friday. The man, Mohammad Shahnawaz, was also carrying khurpi, a knife. Interestingly, he had slipped through security at Dubai and Ahmedabad airports and was caught while leaving the city airport.
Shahnawaz had arrived from Dubai on a Spicejet flight at 12.30 am. While he was going past the visitor area towards the gate, a packet wrapped with gum fell down from his body. Since the packet - which contained gold - was stuck, he tried to free the packet using a khurpi. The CISF personnel detained him on finding his behaviour suspicious.
When the CISF officials questioned him, he got into an argument with them. "Thousand grams of yellow metal was recovered from the passenger; the CISF detained him," said P K Shrivastava, the acting director of the airport. Shahnawaz is being interrogated at the Sardarnagar police station.
