Air cargo vans strike

Chennai: Air cargo operations at Chennai airport came to a halt on Friday following a strike by vans ferrying goods.
On Monday, the Chennai Van Owners Association had decided to go on a 'token' strike from August 16 to 18 to protest against the traffic police's decision to restrict the movement of cargo vans in the city. Since July 1, the government imposed a ban on the movement of vehicles in the city between 8am and 11am and 4pm and 8pm. "This is when air cargo traffic is at it peak and movement of goods to the air cargo complex is automatically affected," said RD Boobalan, south Chennai secretary of the association.
