Jet flights delayed by 15 minutes as ground handling workers go on strike

Mumbai: Jet Airways flights out of Mumbai airport were delayed on Tuesday after workers of a ground handling company went on strike due to a dispute between unions. The workers did not report to work from 6am to 4pm, delaying departing flights by 15-20 minutes.
Workers of Omega, a ground handling company went on strike after their director was allegedly threatened by Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) workers on Monday, said police officials. Around 600 workers in Omega — which takes care of services like loading and cleaning for the airline — are supporters of the Shiv Sena. "There was a dispute between the union and Omega workers. No police complaint was filed and the matter was resolved by evening," said Ravikant Patil, senior inspector, Sahar police station.
