Kannur airport to be ready by December 2015

Kochi: The construction of the runway of the proposed Kannur International Airport will begin in the second week of October, said Excise, Ports and Fisheries Minister K Babu, on the sidelines of a function held in Kochi.
“Eight companies have so far shown interest. The last date for submitting the technical and financial bids has been extended by 15 days, as requested by the companies”, Babu said.
The Minister also said that the government was looking into the possibility of connecting hill stations in Kerala with coastal destinations using seaplanes.
Sea plane service was launched in Kerala recently. The Union Ministry of Forests and Environment, had granted the much-awaited environment clearance for the fourth international airport of the state, in June.
So far, 1,276.03 acres of land has been taken over for the airport project  under the Fast Track Scheme, and compensation was paid to the land owners.
