Runway hurdle delays international status for Birsa Munda airport

Ranchi:  The dream of BirsaMunda airport getting an international tag will take some time to become true as the runway length here does not fulfil the ministry's criterion.
The Federation of Jharkhand Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FJon Tuesday requested the civil aviation secretary to give international status to Ranchi airport.
FJCCI members said facilities at the new airport are under-utilized and demanded that the aero bridge be made functional and car parking space be expanded.
Civil aviation secretary K N Srivastava at a press conference here on Tuesday said the airport can be made international only after the length of its runway is 10,000 feet. "Unless it (the airport) fulfils the basic international requirements it cannot be declared international," said Srivastava who added that the infrastructure of the Ranchi airport is world-class.
