10 flights withdrawn in Ahmedabad, Vadodara

Ahmedabad: Low-cost airlines are fighting an air fare war by offering tickets at Rs 1 to attract more and more passengers, but at the same time some of them have withdrawn their flights from less popular routes to cut down on losses.
High operational costs, lack of enough bookings and increasing losses have forced private airlines to withdraw flights from Ahmedabad and Vadodara. As many as 10 flights of top low-cost airlines have been grounded from the two cities in the last two months.
The biggest withdrawal has been by Spicejet which has withdrawn six flights from Ahmedabad in less than two months including direct flights to Jaipur, Goa, Hyderabad and Delhi. The company officials claim that the routes from which flights have been withdrawn are not profit making.
Jet Airways has withdrawn three flights including two from Ahmedabad and one from Vadodara. "Our Ahmedabad-Bhopal-Raipur and Vadoadara-Indore-Pune flights were getting enough bookings, but were not yielding profits," said a Jet airways official.
According to industry experts, airlines like Jet Airways are focusing on increasing their international fleet and are hence withdrawing flights from non-profitable routes.
