Abhijeet Group alleges flip-flop by MADC

Nagpur:  Even as the ambitious Mihan-SEZ remains without electricity for two days in a row, it is now learnt that the Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) had a month ago given a written consent to Abhijeet Group for procuring cheaper power from open market and supply it to the units operating here. This could have perhaps solved the power crisis temporarily. However, the MADC, which had issued the letter on March 13, is now not agreeing to the method of power purchase adopted by the group.
MADC's vice-chairman-cum-managing director Tanaji Satre has preferred not to comment on the issue. Abhijeet, on the other hand, termed MADC's stance as "mere nit-picking".
A senior officer in Abhijeet told TOI that based on the MADC letter the company went ahead in tying up with Tata Power to purchase around 2.5MW of power at Rs 5 - a rate cheaper than what is to be charged by the MSEDCL which is now set to take up the distribution. However, when the deal was clinched, MADC raised an objection and withheld the final approval.
