Despite reaching on time, singer not allowed to travel on ‘overbooked’ flight

Mumbai: Noted vocalist and Padma Bhushan recipient Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan, 83, was not allowed to board a Jet Airways flight on the grounds that the flight was overbooked. The airline later tried compensating Khan with a Rs 3,000 voucher, which he refused.
Khan, along with his son Murtaza, was headed to an award function at Mahuva, Gujarat by Jet Airways flight 9W 2500, on Monday.
"I booked a proper ticket and reached on time. If the flight is overbooked, it's the airline's fault," said Khan.
The duo then took a 2 pm flight to Ahmedabad. At the time of going to press, they were still travelling.
In their letter, the airline said, "We sincerely regret our inability to accommodate you on our flight. We offer no excuse for what has gone wrong. We compensated you with a Rs 3,000 voucher, which was refused by you."
"No amount that can compensate for the harassment. The airline should respect the elderly and senior artistes," said Khan.
