Air passenger held with Rs 24 lakh worth of gold

Coimbatore: Customs officials seized two gold bars weighing 850.31 grams from a 29-year-old passenger at Coimbatore airport late on Friday. The officials said the accused had been caught with 1.5kg of gold ornaments at Trichy airport last month and was out on bail. He is a frequent traveler to Singapore, an official said.
The passenger was identified N Zaheer Hussain, a native of Chennai who worked for a textile unit in Tirupur.
On August 14, he went to Singapore from Coimbatore airport and was returning to Coimbatore by Silk Air flight on Friday night. The investigation wing of customs office got a tip off and intercepted him.
Officials found gold bars hidden in his socks and seized it. He was taken into custody for interrogation.
