AirAsia CEO Tony Fernandes hums hospitality tune

Chennai: AirAsia CEO Tony Fernandes said his hospitality venture Tune Hotels will focus more on expanding in South India. After scaling up the hospitality venture, Fernandes hopes to bring his insurance business into the country.

"Like AirAsia, Tune Hotels will grow in India. We will focus more on south India. Wherever AirAsia flies we would have a hotel there," Fernandes told ET on the sidelines of a product launch in Kuala Lumpur recently.
Fernandes did not reveal investment details for the project, but sources close to the maverick entrepreneur said the hotels alone would attract around $30 million (Rs180 crore) in investments.

Tune Hotels opened its first India hotel in Ahmedabad in 2013. The 100-room hotel is an integral part of the 4-D Square Mall, located on the Vista-Gandinagar highway.

Currently, four hotels are being constructed in Biwadi, Neemrana, Daman and Chandigarh. These are likely to be operational in the next one year. Sites have also been earmarked in Mumbai, Coimbatore and Goa. On a longer term the game plan is when a traveller takes an AirAsia flight to a destination, we would ensure that we provide hospitality services also," Fernandes said.
