Mumbai/New Delhi: Boeing's Dreamliner 787 planes, touted as a turnaround vehicle for Air India, are becoming a technical nightmare with numerous problems in the airframe and software, although some say the carrier's engineers and crew are partly to blame.
More than six airline executives that ETspoke to squarely blamed Boeing for being "slow" in rectifying the problems, including windshield cracks.
I would say Boeing has solved 50% of the issues and is in the process of solving about 30%. hasn't identified the remaining 20%," said a senior engineer at the airline. He added that the technical dispatch reliability, a benchmark of an aircraft's efficiency, is still about 98.3 for Air India's Dreamliners, when it should have been more than 99. Of every 100 flights that a Dreamliner aircraft makes, only one should be delayed or cancelled for technical reasons.
