Why SpiceJet Meals May Taste Different

Have you noticed something different about the food being served on-board SpiceJet? If you have, it is probably because SpiceJet has a new caterer and has revamped its on-board menu.

"We have re-invested in the brand, we have changed the caterer. The food has always been a distinguishing factor of the SpiceJet flying experience. We have made significant in improving the on-board menu options," SL Narayanan, group chief financial officer (CFO), Sun Group told NDTV. Kalanithi Maran-led Sun Group owns SpiceJet. (Watch)

SpiceJet handed over on-board catering responsibilities to Taj SATS and Cafe Coffee Day (CCD) towards the end of May, offering a new menu- titled 'Hot Meals, Warm Smiles' (See the menu).

Mumbai-based chain of hotels- Narang International Hotels was earlier handling the catering for SpiceJet under the brand name Ambassador Sky Chef and subsequently took the airline to court over non-payment of dues amounting to Rs. 8 crore.

SpiceJet is on a cost-rationalisation drive and has been shutting down flights to any route that has not been generating returns. The budget carrier posted a first quarter net loss of Rs. 124 crore, its fourth consecutive quarterly loss.
