Winds of change: Cidco to brief Uddhav on airport plans

Navi Mumbai:  Top officials of City and Industrial Development Corporation (Cidco) have sought an audience with Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray to brief him on the upcoming Navi Mumbai airport. The request comes a week after they met Union shipping and highways minister Nitin Gadkari to brief him on the project.
The meetings are significant, as it seems that Cidco officials are preparing for a regime change. After years of hard work to get the project off the ground, they are now banking on Shiv Sena-BJP's support for its smooth implementation.
The project had faced some resistance from the local Sena unit earlier, with party leader, Neelam Gorhe, making a cash-only compensation demand last year.
"We met Gadkari last week and made a presentation, as he was instrumental in ensuring a clearance from the civil aviation ministry. Similarly, we will be glad to meet Uddhav Thackeray and make a presentation to him. We are seeking an appointment with him. Not only will it help ensure that there is no opposition. It will also get us his support for the project, even if the NDA comes to power," said a senior Cidco official.
