Air India pilot booked for late-night road rage in Juhu

Mumbai: A senior pilot with Air India was arrested early on Tuesday after he ploughed his car into another in Juhu and then allegedly assaulted the other motorist who criticised him for jumping the red light.

Before leaving the scene, Captain Anupam Tiwari once again smashed his Jaguar into the victim's Hyundai Getz, dragging it, according to the police complaint.

The road rage incident took place shortly after Monday midnight. Tiwari was arrested by the DN Nagar police at 2.40 am on Tuesday and his blood was drawn to check if he was driving drunk. Tiwari later secured bail.

Assistant Police Commissioner S R Dhanedar confirmed the smash-up. "Anupam Tiwari has been booked for rash and negligent driving, and assault under the Indian Penal Code," he said.

The Air India pilot was allegedly speeding in the lanes of Juhu late on Monday night. According to the 28-year-old victim, Faisal Khan, Tiwari jumped the red light at JVPD and lost control, hitting Khan's Getz.

Khan was travelling with his two friends, who sustained minor injuries. Their car, however, was badly damaged.
