Airport likely at Sindri factory site

Sindri: After much hue and cry over the need for air service in the coal capital of the country, the Jharkhand government seems to be zeroing in on an air strip at the now closed Sindri fertilizer factory for developing it into a full-fledged airport.

Additional chief secretary and in-charge of the civil aviation department of the state, Sajal Chakraborty was here on Saturday to work out the possibilities of an airport for Dhanbad on Sindri-Baliapur road. As it was raining heavily, he did not come out of the helicopter and talked to officials of the Dhanbad district administration from within the chopper. The administration was asked to prepare a detailed report on availability of land and other facilities.

Interestingly, after Rajiv Gandhi, who landed at this airstrip way back in 1985, this was the first time when a helicopter landed here.
