Bihar CM proposes airstrip near Nalanda University

Rajgir: CM Jitan Ram Manjhi, while addressing the formal inaugural ceremony of the revived Nalanda University (NU) proposed to build an airstrip near the varsity at Rajgir or Nalanda so that foreign students, faculty members and dignitaries could reach the university, which is situated about 100km from Patna, easily.

The CM sought the Union government's help in setting up the aerodrome. "I am sure the Narendra Modi-led government and the civil aviation ministry will help in Bihar's development," Manjhi said, adding "The state government has already identified about 1,500 acres of land near Rajgir for the airstrip and needs the go- ahead from the Centre."

"Rajgir is the second most popular place for Buddhist pilgrims to Bihar after Bodh Gaya. It attracts lakhs of domestic and foreign visitors every year. The airstrip will also help in promoting tourism in the state," Manjhi said. He also sought the Centre's help in improving the technical know-how of the youngsters in the state. Reiterating former President A P J Abdul Kalam's words, Manjhi said, "India can't progress without Bihar's development. I sincerely hope the Centre and state government will work in tandem for the same."
