CIAL accelerates pace of development at Nedumbassery

Kochi: Nedumbassery: Fifteen-years-ago, Nedumbassery panchayat was a place where lush green paddy fields swayed to the rhythmic flow of the soft breeze. Enter Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL), and out goes the smooth and undisturbed momentum of life of this agrarian village.

Now CIAL and allied projects have become the major revenue contributor for the development of the panchayat. Nedumbassery panchayat has been benefiting in a big way by the Corporate Social Responsibility projects of CIAL. The real estate price in and around CIAL was `2,000 per cent when the airport project began. Now, it has gone up to `20 lakh/cent in areas adjacent to the Airport and `10 lakh/cent at other areas.

The latest addition to the CSR activities of CIAL is an integrated drinking water project which will benefit Nedumbassery, Kanjoor and Sreemoolanagaram panchayats. The project will be implemented in association with Jalanidhi by the end of this financial year. At present CIAL gives around `70 lakh to Nedumbassery panchayat as tax and the amount is likely to become `1 crore next year.
