GMR proposes world class Hyderabad airport city

Hyderabad: The GMR group which constructed the international airport at Shamshabad here and currently operating it proposed to build a world class Hyderabad airport city at a cost of Rs. 750 crore which would create 15,000 to 20,000 jobs and sought the support of Telangana government on this count.

Making a presentation to Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao at the Secretariat on Friday, the group chairman G.M. Rao and other officials said it was also proposed to build a high class exhibition-cum-convention centre spread over 50 acres with a plinth areas of one lakh sq mts as part of the proposed airport city near Shamshabad airport. The exhibition and convention industry was a complex amalgamation of varied economic activity across sectors.

A release later said the Chief Minister assured to study the proposal before coming to a conclusion. He suggested to the group to give a thought to develop one more airport towards the north of Hyderabad, a hospital near Shamshabad airport, a world class theme park and a nature cure centre.
