Goof by Air India leaves Nirmala without dinner dress

New Delhi: She reached Australia in time to attend the G20 summit's dinner for finance ministers and central bank governors slated for Friday. But Air India 'mistakenly' took off the checked-in luggage of Sydney-bound Nirmala Sitharaman, Union minister of state for commerce, in Melbourne. With her saris and formal clothes, among other things, in those missing bags, the eloquent Sitharaman — known for her fine sartorial taste — spent Friday evening in her hotel as she did not have a dress for the occasion!
Sitharaman boarded AI 302, Delhi-Melbourne-Sydney, on Thursday afternoon from here. She was supposed to take a connecting flight from Sydney to Cairns, where the G20 summit is taking place to represent India.
On landing in Sydney on Friday morning, the BJP leader discovered to her horror that her checked-in bags had gone missing. "Landed in Sydney to take a connecting flight to Cairns. My checked in luggage not traceable. :( :(... On board my connecting flight to Cairns. All my formal wear in the lost suitcase! Not sure I can buy Saris in Cairns! Situation precarious!... Hopefully, you (AI) will get it in time for me," she said in a series of tweets.
The minister then flew on to Cairns. By then AI realized her baggage was mistakenly taken off at the Melbourne stopover. The airline then made frantic attempts to fly the bags to Cairns. But they could not send it in time for Sitharaman to attend the Friday evening reception. "Sorry to miss the evening reception at the Palm Cove, Cairns. Staying put in the room. No word yet on my lost luggage," a sad sounding tweet from her said.
But when the bags eventually did reach her, Sitharaman did get somewhat cheered up. "At last, my lost luggage arrives. Thanks every one for your wishes. Thanks #Air India. Oh yes, relief first to get the phone & iPad chargers!" she tweeted.
