Mumbai: Vistara, the Tata-Singapore International Airlines (SIA) joint-venture airline aiming for an October launch has almost completed its hiring process by enticing at least a dozen senior staff from rival carriers Jet and Indigo to join its crew. According to a pilot who has signed up with Vistara, the fact that a "company as prestigious as the Tatas were back in the aviation sector" and SIA's "staff-friendly HR policies" have served as sufficient inducement for executives to climb aboard the new airline. According to sources in the airline, a captain's gross monthly salary at Indigo and Jet is in the vicinity of Rs 5.6 lakh. An officer of similar rank in Vistara earns Rs 5.6 lakh a month.
"Ashutosh Verma, who was a senior commander with IndiGo has joined Vistara where he will head the safety wing," a Vistara official said. Verma will be joined by Deepak Joshi, who was a quality manager with JetLite. A Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA)-approved examiner, trainer and instructor has come in from Indigo. For route planning and aircraft deployment, Vistara has selected some key members from Tata Tele Services and Docomo, both sister concerns of the airline.
The airline is expected to have staff strength of 400 at launch.
The top management comprises Phee Teik Yeoh as chief executive officer, Giamming Toh as chief commercial officer and Niyant Maru as chief financial officer. Besides, key positions chief -human resources is C S Varadarajan and SIA's Roshan Joshi will head the flight operations.
