Won't expand civil flight operations at Lohegaon, says AFS chief

Pune: The Air Force Station (AFS), Lohegaon here has ruled out the possibility of any further expansion of civil flight operation from the defence air base.

"The civil flight operation is adequate as of now. The area available to them (civil enclave) is sufficient and since civil flight operation is to move out near Chakan, a further expansion may not really hold good in the long term," Air Commodore Surat Singh, Air Officer Commanding of the AFS Lohegaon, said on Saturday.

The city's existing airport is a joint user facility. The air traffic control and runway are owned by AFS, Lohegaon and the civil enclave is managed by the Airports Authority of India (AAI). The airport handles 124 civil and 100 military aircraft movement daily.
