2 held for smuggling gold bars from Dubai

Pune: The customs on Tuesday arrested two men at the Lohegaon airport for trying to smuggle in gold worth Rs 80 lakh from Dubai.

One of the accused, Dadaso Dursharekar, a resident of Posewadi in Khanpur taluka of Sangli, had arrived at the Pune airport by an Air India flight on Tuesday morning. His associate, Digvijay Ghorpade, was waiting outside the airport to collect the gold.

Dursharekar tried to clear the customs channel by submitting a nil customs declaration about dutiable goods imported by him. However, an alert customs official noticed his suspicious activities and detained him for questioning.
