Bhubaneswar Airport Gears up to Complete Outer Wall

Bhubaneswar: Not willing to take chances with the lives of passengers after the recent Surat incident in which a buffalo hit an aircraft, the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has issued directives to airports across the country to sanitise the periphery area.

Accordingly, the Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) authorities have geared up to complete construction of the airport’s perimeter (outer) wall, a stretch of which adjoins Ganganagar area.

Over a year back, after the proposal to construct a kilometre-long boundary wall was floated, residents of Ganganagar resisted its construction. They claim, the wall, once constructed will affect movement of vehicles.

The residents had also filed a petition in the Orissa High Court in this regard. The court directed the BPIA Director to settle the dispute considering the grievances of locals.
Following this an official of the General Administration (GA) Department was deputed on two occasions to re-demarcate the airport land.
