Congress to move court against airport renaming

Hyderabad:  Angry at the Centre's decision to name the domestic terminal at Shamshabad airport after iconic Telugu leader NT Rama Rao, the Congress party on Sunday said it will soon move court against it.

Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh, who is also in-charge of the party's Telangana affairs, steered a coordination committee meeting here on Sunday, after which he told reporters that the party could no longer keep quiet on the controversial issue. "We are actively considering moving court against the move to name the domestic terminal. There is only one building and one terminal, so how can it have two names?" Singh asked.

Telugu Desam Party leader and Union civil aviation minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju had 'restored' NTR's name to the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) by ordering that the airport's domestic terminal would be known as N T Rama Rao domestic terminal.
But the move has created ruckus with regular protests both at the airport and at the assembly. While chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao said there was no point in having two names for one airport, the Congress leaders have are directly criticized the move.
