Kolhapur airport still awaits state government’s push

Kolhapur:  Pravin Darade, secretary to chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, on Friday said that he has received a proposal, urging the government to pursue the issue of commencement of Kolhapur airport with the Union government, and that he will take it up with the CM.

Darade was in the city to hold a review meeting of the district and take stock of the situation.

Darade added, "The Kolhapur airport commencement proposal is the only demand I have received."
The airport was supposed to commence its operations in early September, but the Director General of Civil Aviation which is supposed to provide the final clearance, cancelled its visit due to some technical problems. Moreover, the model code of conduct for the assembly elections had come into force in mid-September, further delaying the proceedings.

Reacting to Darade's statement, MP Dhananjay Mahadik said, "It is a welcome statement. If the state government follows it up, the entire procedure to get clearances for the commencement of the airport will be easier. The air connectivity between Kolhapur and other major cities, including Mumbai, New Delhi and Bangalore, is a necessity. It will benefit the industries and educational institutions in the region."
