New Maharashtra Airport Development Company petition for Mihan power supply soon

Nagpur: Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) has asked Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) to file a fresh petition for supplying power to Mihan industries. It has to be filed on Monday. While MERC has not stopped MADC from making arrangements to buy power through open access, it is subject to the approval of Monday's petition. Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday promised to supply power at the rate of Rs 4.30 per unit.

In a hearing held recently, MERC had directed MADC to file an affidavit containing four submissions. First issue was to submit its stand on the notice of termination of concession agreement issued by Abhijeet Group. Abhijeet had built a 240MW power plant for Mihan, but terminated the contract citing various reasons. Abhijeet had filed a civil suit claiming Rs 1,800 crore as damages.

The second is to submit details of long term power procurement plan for Mihan SEZ. RB Goenka of Vidarbha Industries Association (VIA) had volunteered to suggest possible long term solutions to get cheaper power to consumers of Mihan. The commission accepted his proposal and asked him to submit a report within two weeks.
