NTR's name for RGIA terminal decided in '99: Naidu

Hyderabad: A day after the Telangana assembly passed a resolution opposing the decision of the Union civil aviation ministry naming the domestic terminal at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport after N T Rama Rao, both the TDP and Congress staged protests in the city.

Former TDP minister Motkupally Narsimhulu sat on protest at NTR Ghat at Necklace Road against the Telangana assembly's resolution. Andhra chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Union minister Sujana Chowdhary and MLAs E Dayakar Rao and A Revanth Reddy expressed their solidarity with him.

Naidu said that Shamshabad international airport was launched during the TDP regime and recalled that the party had announced in 1999 itself that the domestic terminal would be named after NTR. He said the AP government would take steps to respect and install the statues of Telangana leaders like Komaram Bheem, Chakali Ilamma and PV Narasimha Rao in the new capital of Aandhra Pradesh.
