Cops Visit Bengaluru to Probe Bomb Threat at Kochi Airport

Kochi: Close on the heels of the arrest of Islamic State (IS) publicist Mehdi Masroor Biswas by the Bengaluru police, a special police team from Kerala has visited Bengaluru to collect details about the suspects in the case related to the recent bomb threat call at three airports, including the Kochi airport.

A four-member team led by Nedumbasserry circle inspector left for Bengaluru on Saturday, a day after the arrest of Biswas, who is accused of operating a twitter account in support of terrorist organisation Islamic State (IS).

The hoax calls were made to the airports on October 24, threatening that Air India flight operating in the Mumbai-Kochi and Ahmedabad-Mumbai sectors would be targeted in a possible suicide attack. According to Nedumbassery circle inspector M K Murali it was a routine investigation aimed at tracing the SIM card details of the phone from which the anonymous calls were made. “As the SIM card was traced in West Bengal, and later the number was traced in Bengaluru, we are verifying the possible involvement of certain suspects who are based there,” said police sources.
