Fog in Delhi hits 100 flights, worse is yet to come

New Delhi: The chill intensified in the capital on a sunless Friday, when a persistent fog disrupted flights and kept the maximum temperature six notches below normal at 16.4 degrees Celsius.

While visibility is expected to improve over the weekend, a worse spell of fog is predicted next week which could hit Christmas time travel in the region.

Around 100 flights were delayed, some for as much as two hours, as visibility dipped below 200 metres between 5.30am and 8.30am, and improved markedly on by noon. Seven flights were cancelled of which six were to be operated by Spicejet. Airport sources attributed most of the delays to non-CAT III compliant aircraft or pilots.
