'Rename airport as Tulunadu International Airport'

Mangaluru: The valedictory function of Vishwa Tuluvere Parba 2014 on Sunday saw Akhila Bharatha Tulu Okkoota demanding the ministry of Civil Aviation to rename Mangaluru International Airport into 'Tulunadu International Airport'.

In a resolution adopted on the third day of World Tulu Festival held in association with Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy at Sahyadri Campus in Adyar here, the Okkoota also demanded that the process of inclusion of Tulu in Schedule VIII of Indian Constitution should be expedited.

For this purpose, they asked the state government to set up a high-level committee headed by chief secretary.
Other major demands in the resolution include objections to Yettinahole project, hazardous industries, revoke ban on Kambala, introduction of Tulu as third language in the curriculum of primary and high schools in undivided Dakshina Kannada district.
The organizers of Tuluvere Parba, including honorary president D Veerendra Heggade, dharmadhikari of Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala, were planning to hand over the resolution with demands to chief minister Siddaramaiah. However, the CM, who was supposed to be the chief guest at the valedictory function of the fest, remained absent citing health reason.
