SpiceJet overcomes its financial crisis while Vistara airline starts ground operations

After weeks of bad news, the skies seem to have cleared up a little for Indian aviation—although in a more narrow sense, onset of fog has been delaying some flights into and out of Delhi.

It's back to business as usual at SpiceJet, which has resumed normal--albeit reduced—services, cooling off fares that had shot up due to wholesale cancellations by the carrier in the past few days. Meanwhile, those seeking wider choice in full-service carriers can look forward to the January 9 start of services by Vistara, joint venture between Tata Sons and Singapore Airlines, which began selling tickets on Thursday.

Shares of SpiceJe surged 19.7% to Rs 15.80 in response to the news that investors led by former promoter Ajay Singh are likely to infuse about Rs 1,200 crore in a rescue attempt, which ETreported on Friday.
The carrier looked set to operate a schedule of 230 flights for a second day on Friday, lowering fares. A last-minute, oneway Delhi-Bengaluru ticket fell to about Rs 12,600 fromRs 17,600. Likewise, Delhi-Goa fares came down to Rs 9,800 fromRs 15,900 and Delhi-Mumbai toRs 6,000 from Rs 14,500. A search on travel portals showed that SpiceJet was offering the cheapest fares in key sectors.
