Who let the dog in ?

Ahmedabad: At a time when the Ahmedabad airport is constantly on alert due to possible terrorist strike, passengers face a different kind of terror with stray dogs invading the ramp and runway. On Friday, passengers spotted a stray dog on the runway even as an Ahmedabad-Newark flight took off from the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. A major accident was averted as the dog, which watched the flight taxi down the runway, ran back to the ramp when it gained momentum to take off. The incident occurred when Air India 191 Ahmedabad-Mumbai-Newark flight departed at 9.15 pm on Friday.

The canine was on the runway for at least 10 minutes but authorities remained unaware of its presence in this restricted area. An alert Mirror reader, who saw the incident, clicked photographs of the dog. "Not even a month ago, a catastrophe was averted when a SpiceJet flight with 140 passengers hit a stray buffalo on Surat runway. But airport authorities do not seem to have learnt their lesson. Stray dogs run amok inside and outside the airport but no one is bothered about finding a solution to this problem. Are they waiting for passengers to die before taking this issue seriously?" questioned the reader, who refused to be named.
