5 Held At Airport With 180 Kg Of Camel Teeth

Mumbai : The Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) security staff detained five people for attempting to smuggle camel teeth weighing 180 kg to Bangkok at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport on Thursday.

The five were detained after a staffer employed by the MIAL noticed camel teeth in the eight passenger bags during the routine security check. The security staff immediately alerted the Customs officials who seized the bags and retrieved information of the passengers who were carrying the same. According to the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Mumbai Customs, the detained persons were carrying the 180 kg camel teeth in eight bags.

The five had boarded a flight to Bangkok and were scheduled to depart at 11.20 pm. However, after the camel teeth were found in their bags, they were asked to get off the flight and were detained for further questioning. The 180 kg of camel teeth was handed over to the forest department. All those detained are Indians. Meanwhile, the Customs officials are wondering why camel teeth is being smuggled to Bangkok in such large quantities.
