Charter flights, private jets barred at IGI on January 26

New Delhi:  Private jets and charter flights have been barred from the IGI Airport on Sunday morning when US President Barack Obama lands in New Delhi. Till late Saturday evening, there was no airspace closure due to Air Force One for scheduled commercial flights.

"No private planes will be allowed at IGI Airport for some time due to heightened security. Also, charter flights will be restricted. Only those cleared by home ministry will be allowed to operate for some days," said an official without giving exact details due to security concerns.

The world's most famous Jumbo Jet (Air Force One is a Boeing 747) will be assigned a runway depending on the visibility at the IGIA. The newest runway (29) suffers from low visibility among all the three airstrips at the airport. However, Air Force One is expected around 10am, by when visibility is not an issue these days especially for hi-tech planes like it that can land or take off in dense fog.
